Corning Meals on Wheels, Neighbors Helping Neighbors
You may have heard news about potential reductions in federal funding for Meals on Wheels programs. We want to reassure you: Corning Meals on Wheels remains fully committed to delivering meals to our seniors without interruption.
Since 1966, our program has proudly served homebound and frail seniors in the Corning-Painted Post area, powered primarily by the generosity of our local community. Unlike some programs in the news, we rely on federal funding for less than 10% of our meal costs. The heart of our funding comes from contributions by meal recipients or their families, as well as donations from individuals, fundraisers, civic and church groups, the United Way of the Southern Tier and other local grants.
With your continued support, we are confident in our ability to maintain our services. We will ramp up fundraising efforts to ensure every senior we serve—about 130 each day—receives their meals.
We know that this kind of national news can cause fear and uncertainty, especially for the seniors we serve. That’s why we want to say clearly:
Your meals are safe. Our commitment is strong. And we are here for you.
Thank you to our community for your continued support and trust. Together, we will keep delivering more than just meals — we will keep delivering peace of mind.
We Love Our Volunteers!
On any given day it takes a minimum of 38 volunteers to keep the wheels rolling. That’s 190 volunteers a week! Compare that to our paid staff of 5 and you get the picture.
CMoW is always in need of volunteers - on either a regular or substitute basis.
